Office Visio Professional 2007 offers advanced functionality, such as data connectivity and visualization features, that Office Visio Standard 2007 does not.

My revision on Visio

Very useful tool for the design of Telecom and Internet networks. It can be used for other implementations or purposes (TV networks and security cameras, distribution of 19 ”Rack equipment, distribution of electrical connections, for example) and it will depend on the content of the Visio stencils added to the libraries.

Pros

I have been using this application for several years as a tool to design the various structures or diagrams of the telecommunications network and the Internet required by the multiple projects completed and currently underway in the Corporation. I love the variety of elements in their libraries or Visio stencils that are usually extensive and you only need to drag every element or master shape to the drawing and assemble the interconnection network required as a technical solution. It is very easy to implement and manage. It allows me to save a compendium of previous solutions that serve as the basis for new solutions.

Cons

It is one of my fundamental work tools in the design of network topology and I really have no negative comments to make about the product.

Process Flow Diagrams made Easy

It requires a little effort and background knowledge before you start making drawings. You also need to draw some custom shapes as its shapes library is very limited. Online support is very limited and you can not search for shapes online. On the other hand, it does not autosaves the file and once the program crashes you can not recover the file easily.

Pros

The thing that I most liked was a variety of tools available and also you can create your own shapes and save them in your own stencil. You can make professional-looking P&IDs, PFDs, and other related drawings. I can also integrate other software with it to add data related to process conditions and equipment details related to my process. On the other hand, it also has a wide range of drawing types to select, depending upon the discipline of expertise.

Cons

It requires a little effort and background knowledge before you start making drawings. You also need to draw some custom shapes as its shapes library is very limited. Online support is very limited and you can not search for shapes online. On the other hand, it does not autosaves the file and once the program crashes you can not recover the file easily.

I have a love-hate relationship with Visio

Whether you like it or not is an industry-standard so it's better to learn it even if you don't like it.

Pros

The most important thing and the reason that I fully recommend it even with its downsides is that I get paid the ammount I earn in part because I know how to use Visio, creating a network diagram, maintaining it and exporting it is one of my tasks in every deployment and without Visio diagramming a network would be probably much harder than it is right now. Visio supports industry standards, a diagram created by other engineer will follow the same rules making it easier to read and modify as needed.

Cons

No MacOSX support so I need a VM to run this in my Macbook. Lately has been crashing a lot in my machine so I will probably need to delete it and do a fresh install.
